The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the chairperson of the Board of Directors of RBI, India's central bank. The banknotes issued by RBI in India has the signature of the Governor.
Sir Osborne Smith was the first-ever Governor of RBI. The position is currently held by Raghuram Rajan, who took over from Dr D. Subbarao on 4th September 2013.RBI has seen 22 goveror's ,Raghuram Rajan being the 23rd and he is also the youngest RBI Governor.
Sir Benegal Rama Rau is the Longest serving RBI Governor (7yrs and 6 months) and A.Ghosh being the shortest serving (21 days).Normal tenure of RBI governor is 3 years.
