The term Bank was gradually came into existence from the Italian word" Banco" which means bench.It was called so as all the dealings were done through a bench.When there is no adequate funds for these banks to provide then it is said that that bench is rupted or destroyed and thus now it is called as bankrupt.
A bench is not at all silly!!!
